2021 Intelligence & National Security Summit

I’m a technology leader and national-security policy advisor with a background in government and Silicon Valley. I am currently with Broadcom, with recent experience as an executive with Microsoft and VMware. I’m based in Washington DC.

I like to write about society, government, and technology. I started as a fairly fuzzy technologist, with an early career in political science both academic and practical – I’ve worked at all levels of government, most recently as a senior executive in the federal government but earlier for the mayors of several major American cities.

I’ve always been an early adopter of information technologies, and moved to Palo Alto in 1984, spending the next two decades working in and around Silicon Valley. After the 9/11 attacks, I focused on technologies to support the Intelligence Community. In 2002 I accepted an offer to work directly inside the community, becoming Senior Technology Officer at the Defense Intelligence Agency. I spent five years participating in a remarkable period of innovation and reform for the intelligence community. Some of our best work focused on information sharing, better analysis, and Web 2.0 capabilities; my group did the early work on well-known IC-wide projects like Intellipedia, A-Space, and the IC Data Layer.

All I know about Lewis (Lewie to me) is that around 1975 or so, in an old VW full of kids and groceries, (me driving) Lewis and I got into a terrific argument over the correct pronunciation of McDonald’s (you know the burger place). He said MAC, I said MC – it was never settled, but I did threaten to put him out of the car on the side of the road. I have not argued with him since. Aunt Millie

    Pi does not equal 3.141…

    A new corrected value of Pi = 4 / sqrt (Phi) = 3.144605511… where Phi is the Golden Ratio = 1.618033989… .

    You can easily prove this to yourself by simply measuring the Pi Circumference of a 1 unit diameter circle. For a 1,000.0 mm diameter circle, the circumference is 3,144.6 mm, which means Pi = 3,144.6 / 1000.0 = 3.1446… .

    Or if you don’t know how to handle basic manual drafting tools and have an engineering tape measure — Starrett Engineering Tape or an NIST-certified Pi Tape Measure from Pi Tape LLC, you can log onto my web site at http://www.measuringpisquaringphi.com and view 5-6 videos of the direct physical measurement of Pi and/or step through 4-5 Math Proofs for Corrected Pi.

    Why is this important:

    Mainly, NASA JPL NEO is busy using the uncorrected value of Pi to calc their simulations of Earth and Asteroid orbits and they claim Asteroid 99942 will be a “near-miss” on Apr 13, 2029. The Big Question is: would Asteroid 99942 be a “near-miss” or a direct hit if NASA NEO used the correct value of Pi. The orbital difference between using Old Pi and corrected Pi is around 800,000 Km and 900,000 Km respectively for Earth and for Asteroid 99942 (nicknamed Apophis).

    Check it out. Then you can change your web site logo for Pi to equal the correct value of Pi = 4 / sqrt (Phi) = 3.144605511… to a thousand digits. Study Kepler’s Golden Ratio Triangle.
